PSU Coach Charged with DUI

A DUI charge for Pittsburg State University's head football Coach.  The Galena Police Department confirming for NewsTalk KZRG that coach Chuck Broyles was arrested Tuesday night at 23rd and Main in Galena on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

PSU President Steve Scott said Broyles notified him of the citation on Nov. 25.

“I am deeply saddened and profoundly disappointed by this news,” Scott said. “Drinking and driving is a serious problem and we do not take these things lightly. I appreciate Coach Broyles immediately bringing this to my attention and I know he understands the gravity of this incident.”

President Scott said he will meet again with Coach Broyles after the Thanksgiving holidays to discuss the matter further.   By that time, more complete information should be available concerning the incident itself.

In a separate statement, Coach Broyles said, “I’ve always told our players, ‘Don’t ever do anything to embarrass me, this football program or the university, because there have been a lot of great things that have gone on here and you don’t want to diminish that. You are the only one who is responsible for your actions.’

“Now, I’m the one who is embarrassed. I hope others will not judge me too harshly or let this incident tarnish the PSU football program, Dr. Scott or the university. I am the one who made a poor choice and I am the only one who is responsible for my actions.”

Broyles was officially charged in city court.
